OOT is proud to join the fresh crop of opera companies worldwide seeking to make opera more accessible to the modern audience.
What is a site-specific opera?
A site-specific opera allows the audience to witness a performance as if it were happening in the world around them. For example, a production may take place at a restaurant, in a house, or even outside, depending on the setting of the opera. Through this setting, the audience and performers may explore the relationship between the space, audience, and the storytelling.
This movement of creating theatrical environments out of business, residential, or recreational spaces has many benefits for a small opera company. In eliminating the overhead costs of building a set, technical design, and theatre rental, OOT allocates more funds to paying artists a higher wage. This commitment to paying artists is crucial, and OOT is dedicated to compensating musicians for their work. OOT operates under the leadership of Pacific Northwest Theatre and is equally committed to bringing new musical genres and experiences to youth in the Olympia metro.
